A Senior Management Opportunity Offering Genuine Autonomy and Long-Term Rewards

Are you an experienced Business Manager, National or Regional Sales Manager or commercial leader who enjoys developing people, building customer relationships and driving profitable growth?

Perhaps you're already managing a successful business or leading a substantial sales operation, but would welcome greater influence over commercial decisions and the opportunity to take your career further.

We're recruiting for a Designate Business Manager to join a highly successful, privately owned group operating across specialist wholesale, distribution and technical product markets. This is an opportunity for someone with established management experience and a strong commercial mindset who wants to build a long-term career within a business that values initiative, accountability and entrepreneurial leadership.

About the Business

Our client is part of a highly successful, privately owned group with annual turnover exceeding £1 billion and a strong presence across wholesale, distribution and specialist technical markets.

The group operates a decentralised management structure, giving its businesses the freedom to make commercial decisions, develop customer relationships and respond to opportunities within their markets. Its philosophy is built around trusting capable individuals to lead their businesses, supported by the resources and stability of an established national group.

The Role

As Designate Business Manager, you'll be joining the group with a clear focus on commercial leadership, business performance and developing people. You'll have the opportunity to build on your existing management experience, with a view to taking full responsibility for a sizeable business, including its sales performance, profitability, people and day-to-day operations.

A key part of the opportunity is sales leadership. You'll need to be comfortable working closely with customers, developing new business opportunities, motivating sales teams and identifying ways to improve revenue, margins and profitability.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building a positive, high-performing team culture with clear expectations and accountability
  • Driving sales growth through existing customer relationships and new business development
  • Providing hands-on leadership and direction to sales teams
  • Identifying opportunities to improve margins, profitability and overall business performance
  • Taking responsibility for commercial targets, budgets and key performance indicators
  • Developing strong relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues
  • Recruiting, coaching and supporting individuals to reach their potential
  • Making sound commercial decisions and taking ownership of results

About You

We're looking for an experienced, commercially driven manager who combines strong people leadership with a genuine enthusiasm for sales and business development. You may currently be working as a Business Manager, Branch Manager, Profit Centre Manager, National or Regional Sales Manager, Commercial Manager, General Manager or in a similar leadership position.

Experience within wholesale, distribution, manufacturing or technical product markets would be particularly relevant. This could include electrical products, building services, HVAC, plumbing and heating, lighting, industrial products, controls, automation, building materials or other trade-focused sectors.

Ideally, you'll be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience leading, motivating and developing sales-focused teams
  • A strong track record in sales growth, customer development or commercial leadership
  • Experience taking responsibility for budgets, margins, profitability or wider business performance
  • The confidence to lead sales teams and remain personally involved with customers
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to identify opportunities for improvement
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to leadership
  • The ambition and capability to take full responsibility for the performance and development of a business

Above all, we're looking for someone who enjoys the commercial side of management, takes pride in developing a successful team and wants the freedom to make a meaningful impact.

Benefits

The group offers a highly attractive remuneration package that rewards both individual contribution and business performance.

  • £70,000–£90,000 basic salary, dependent on experience
  • Significant annual profit share, offering substantial additional earning potential linked to business performance
  • Company car
  • Pension
  • Genuine influence over commercial decisions
  • Long-term career development within a successful privately owned group

If you're an established manager or commercial leader looking for greater responsibility and the opportunity to make a real difference, we'd welcome a confidential conversation. All applications and enquiries will be treated in the strictest confidence.
