Graduate Inventory & Purchasing Executive
Location: Bristol / Avonmouth
Salary: £30,000–£32,000 + Annual Profit Share
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Our client is a leading specialist distributor supplying a broad range of products from well-known manufacturers to customers across the UK. The Bristol operation is entering an exciting period of growth, with continued investment in its people and a strong focus on developing closer relationships with key suppliers.
This is not simply a transactional purchasing role. Alongside managing stock and buying activity, you’ll be encouraged to build strong supplier relationships, negotiate effectively and become increasingly involved in the wider commercial development of the business.
The Role
You’ll develop a broad understanding of purchasing, inventory and supplier management while gradually taking ownership of key responsibilities across the business.
Your role will include:
A key part of the position will be developing the supplier side beyond simply placing orders. You’ll get to know key manufacturers and their representatives, understand their businesses and look for ways to develop stronger and more commercially beneficial relationships.
As your experience grows, there will be scope to take increasing ownership of key suppliers, purchasing projects and wider commercial initiatives.

This opportunity would particularly suit a graduate or someone in the early stages of their career who enjoys working with numbers and data but also has the communication skills and confidence to build strong professional relationships.

The Role
You’ll develop a broad understanding of purchasing, inventory and supplier management while gradually taking ownership of key responsibilities across the business.
Your role will include:
- Managing inventory levels across a broad product range
- Placing and managing purchase orders
- Monitoring stock turnover, inventory investment and purchasing performance
- Analysing sales trends, buying patterns and future demand
- Building strong relationships with manufacturers and suppliers
- Negotiating pricing, terms and commercial arrangements
- Developing closer relationships with a core group of key suppliers
- Working with supplier representatives to identify commercial opportunities
- Supporting product promotions and supplier initiatives
- Producing and analysing reports using Excel
- Identifying opportunities to improve stock availability and purchasing efficiency
- Working closely with sales, operations and management teams
- Gaining exposure to the external sales team and key customers where appropriate
- Taking on wider commercial and operational responsibilities as you develop

- Educated to degree level or similar, or able to demonstrate equivalent commercial potential
- Confident, personable and comfortable communicating with different people
- Numerically confident with strong analytical skills
- Commercially minded with an interest in purchasing and negotiation
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and data
- Organised with good attention to detail
- Proactive and interested in improving processes and finding better ways of working
- Keen to learn, take responsibility and develop your career over time
- Comfortable working across different areas of a business rather than being restricted to one narrow function
