Our client, Peterhead Port Authority, has fantastic new opportunities for Port Services Operatives which is a multi-skilled role, responsible for operating the UGIE RUNNER for towage and harbour maintenance. When not on the water, you are responsible for assisting with general port maintenance and general port services.
This is a full-time permanent position based in Peterhead. Please note applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK and stay within daily commute distance to Peterhead.
Hours: Monday - Friday 0730 - 1600 (or similar to be agreed)

Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out the role of Coxswain/Deckhand when engaged in harbour cleaning, maintenance and towage operations.
- Take instruction from VTS regarding safe navigation within the port and port limits.
- Ensure the harbour is kept clean and free from debris.
- Conduct general maintenance and cleaning around the port estate.
- Work with the engineering department on specific projects when required.
- Fill in to cover other roles, for example on the weighbridge.
- Maintain aids to navigation.
- Assist in the mooring of vessels as required.
- Maintain accurate records of towage movements and vessel maintenance.
- Conduct routine maintenance and ensure a high-level cleanliness of port work boats.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including man-overboard incidents, mechanical failures, fires, floods, first aid or adverse weather conditions. Also be able to recover any casualty’s from the water and self-rescue.
- Participate in ongoing training programs to stay current with industry standards, technology, and best practices.
- Comply with all relevant PPA and external policies and procedures.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures onboard, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Carry out such other duties as may from time to time be required.
- Ability to operate safely in a dynamic marine environment, looking after personal safety and the safety of colleagues. For example using ladders, working at height, enclosed space entry, physical and manual work, use of hand tools, manual handling etc.
Essential Skills and qualifications:
- MCA approved Certificate of Competency / Class 1 or Class 2 Fishing or approved RYA boat master license.
- Valid ENG1 Medical
- If RYA qualified a valid commercial endorsement or ability to obtain one.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Flexible.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to work under operational pressures and to work to tight operational deadlines.
- Positive attitude when under pressure.
- Proactive approach to safety.
- Capability to perform duties during varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Excellent local knowledge of Peterhead Port.
- Good ship handling skills
- Knowledge of relative legislation.
