A fabulous and exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a dynamic and well established manufacturing organisation as a Category Buyer. This role is being recruited on a 12 month FTC to cover a maternity leave and will be based in Wellington (Somerset).

As the Category Buyer you will be responsible for managing the buying process for nominated categories including strategic direction and supplier selection. 

Key responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Negotiate price and service and monitor supplier quality and service feedback as appropriate
  • Operation of the procurement process for your nominated categories (including forecasting, order placement and follow-up and negotiating best delivery terms
  • Network with contacts in the business to ensure that priorities are clear and commercial goals are followed through 
  • Provide a deep knowledge of the supply base and derive the best value whilst managing risk
  • Provide professional and comprehensive support to Project Managers to complete all sourcing briefs according to strategy and project timelines
  • Negotiating terms and prices directly with vendors
  • Take ownership of purchase pricing both in terms of ensuring best buying practice, value for money and the formal aspects of actual and future price data in the system
  • Developing supply strategies
  • Bench marking and comparing prices using industry networking
  • Reviewing, checking, approving and rejecting Vendor requests
  • Tracking orders for best possible performance whilst pushing under-performing suppliers as appropriate
  • Informing Procurement Manager and other colleagues of important problems/delays
  • Attending and contributing to planning meetings as needed
  • Working closely with Finance, Customer Service, Planning and QA to ensure effective communication and planning of projects, data maintenance, standard prices and forecasting are relayed.

To be successful in this post, it is essential you have a strong working knowledge of strategic sourcing and supplier management combined with strong negotiation skills. You will also be highly organised, systematic in your approach and highly computer literate. It is essential you have the ability to work as part of a team as well as the ability to work under pressure.

Our client is offering a competitive salary on this position, combined with a strong benefits package. The hours of work are 08:30 – 16:30 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 – 16:00 on Friday, 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays, free on-site parking, staff canteen plus other benefits.
