Entry Qualifications:  5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent

 An opportunity to work for an established and nursery caring for children aged 2 to 5 years old. This provision has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted. You will work under direct supervision to develop your skills to manage the responsibilities within this role.  You will attend Kingston College on a weekly day release and be work based for the remainder of the week.  Your work base learning will enable you:-

* To help children and families to settle into the nursery’s routine and environment.
* To support children in their everyday interaction with others and development of social skills.
* To work as part of a team to provide a high quality early years curriculum based on the Early Years Foundation Stage.
* To work as part of a team to provide a high standard of care and play activities for children in a secure, safe and stimulating environment.
* To support topics planned for the day
* To plan for and participate in children’s play indoors and out.
* To work towards having key person responsibility.
* To be alert to indications of possible abuse and to report any such concerns to the Nursery Manager immediately.
* On occasions to prepare snack meals and cooking activities with children.
* To be responsible for the safe and appropriate use of equipment associated with the activities undertaken with the children.
* To maintain the play areas and equipment to be used in safe and serviceable condition. To remove equipment in need of repair and report it to the manager.
* To undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery as required by all staff.
* To support children in their personal care, changing nappies, toilet training, hand washing, dressing etc.
* To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and personal qualities:

·         To be able to relate well to children aged between two and five years of age.
·         To have a sense of responsibility towards the children
·         To have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
·         Willingness to develop an understanding of work with families of different races, religions, cultures and with children or carers with disabilities. To have regard for people’s differences 
          and additional needs.
·         An awareness of safety and hygiene.
·         to be motivated, enthusiastic and have a positive ‘can do’ attitude
·         To be punctual and reliable.
