We’re recruiting for a Compliance Manager to join a successful and growing business in Cannock. This is a key role within the organisation, responsible for ensuring the business remains compliant across its Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety and regulatory requirements, while continually improving its systems and processes.


The Role
  • Managing and maintaining key industry accreditations, including ISO, ISO 14001, BRCGS, FSC, EcoVadis and FORS.
  • Supporting the business on its journey towards carbon neutrality.
  • Maintaining the central Quality Management System (QMS) and compliance database.
  • Ensuring Environmental, Compliance, Quality, Health & Safety and related documentation is accurate, current and accessible.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, regulations, industry standards and best practice.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with packaging legislation, including Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR) and Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT).
  • Calculating and managing EPR returns data.
  • Planning and managing internal and external audit programmes, ensuring actions are followed through to completion.
  • Supporting the business with ESG and CSR requirements.
  • Working with the SMT, Finance and HR teams to ensure company policies and procedures remain relevant and compliant.
  • Maintaining the staff training matrix and identifying training requirements.
  • Managing the company’s insurance portfolio and acting as the main point of contact for insurance claims.
  • Supporting Health & Safety activities and helping ensure the business provides a safe working environment.
  • Supporting Sales and Procurement with customer and supplier compliance questionnaires and tender submissions.
  • Identifying opportunities for continual improvement across compliance processes and systems.
  • Managing issues and crises when they arise, including root cause analysis and corrective action to prevent recurrence.

Essential experience:
  • Strong, demonstrable experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, or BRCGS Food-Grade Packaging standards.
  • Candidates with strong experience in either ISO or BRCGS will be considered, as the other system can be learned.
  • Experience calculating and managing EPR returns data.
  • Experience managing internal and third-party audit programmes.
  • A strong understanding of regulatory compliance and how to monitor and maintain compliance with changing legislation.
  • Experience identifying training requirements and implementing effective training programmes.
  • Previous experience of managing a process, function or team.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The confidence to work with senior stakeholders and colleagues across multiple departments.
  • A proactive approach to identifying risks, solving problems and continually improving processes.

Desirable Experience
  • Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR)
  • Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT), including calculating and submitting data
  • Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) systems
  • PEFC certification
  • Working within a warehouse, distribution or manufacturing environment
  • ESG, CSR or sustainability initiatives
