Senior Software Test Engineer (QA / Technical Author)
Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 (DOE)


Location: Rugeley, Staffordshire

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm


You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and user clarity of critical software systems. Your time will be split between software testing (manual and automated) and producing technical documentation that supports users, developers, and engineers alike.


Key Responsibilities

Software Testing & QA
  • Design and execute detailed test plans, test scripts, and test cases
  • Conduct functional, regression, integration, and system-level testing
  • Identify and report defects, collaborating with developers to resolve them
  • Ensure software meets defined requirements and industry safety standards
  • Continuously improve testing procedures and frameworks
Technical Documentation
  • Create and maintain a range of technical documents, including:
  • User manuals & product guides
  • API documentation
  • Installation/configuration instructions
  • Release notes and test reports
  • Translate complex technical information into accessible, clear documentation
  • Liaise closely with software and engineering teams to keep documentation accurate and current

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience in software testing and quality assurance
  • Confident with manual and automated testing tools (e.g., Selenium, Postman, JIRA)
  • Solid understanding of QA methodologies, practices, and frameworks
  • Experience writing technical documentation for software products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git)

Desirable Extras
  • ISTQB Foundation Certification (or equivalent)
  • Previous work in safety-critical or regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, medical)
  • Understanding of APIs and integration testing
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks
