Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently searching for a Service Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

Due to continued growth within their Special Projects and Defence division, they are looking to strengthen their engineering team with the addition of a hands-on Service Engineer.

This is a newly created role based out of the Bradford depot, combining both workshop and field-based work (approximately 70% workshop / 30% field). The role will involve planned maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and breakdown support on mobile crane and lorry loader equipment across the UK.

This position would suit an engineer with strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical experience, ideally gained within mobile plant, crane, or heavy equipment environments. Experience within lorry loaders or similar hydraulic systems would be highly advantageous.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnostics, and repair of mobile crane and associated equipment
  • Perform workshop-based refurbishment and upgrade work on hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Attend UK-wide breakdowns and service visits as required
  • Support commissioning and handover of new and refurbished equipment
  • Carry out LOLER inspections and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Assist with special projects and development of new equipment solutions
  • Ensure all service documentation and reports are completed accurately
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements and company procedures at all times
  • Work closely with wider engineering and project teams
  • Support continuous improvement of maintenance and repair processes
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong background in hydraulics with fault finding, repair, and rebuild experience
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering experience within a service or maintenance environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical, hands-on approach
  • Good communication and customer-facing skills (including professional conduct on MoD/customer sites)
  • Organised, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Basic IT skills for reporting and documentation
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel across the UK, with occasional overseas travel if required
Desirable:
  • Experience working with lorry loader cranes or mobile crane equipment
  • LOLER inspection experience
  • Exposure to defence/MOD environments (BPSS clearance advantageous)
