Overview

First Military are recruiting on behalf of a global leader in offshore survey and positioning services, supporting sectors including telecommunications, renewable energy, oil & gas, marine construction, and coastal infrastructure. This position would suit someone with a strong technical background and a proactive, problem-solving attitude. This role offers a varied and dynamic working environment, combining hands-on technical responsibilities both in the workshop and in the field, including offshore assignments. The Survey Engineer will be responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and repair of electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems used in geophysical, hydrographic, meteorological, and oceanographic surveys.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare survey equipment for mobilisation, including workshop setup and pre-deployment testing.
  • Pack and document survey equipment, ensuring all items are clearly listed with serial numbers and descriptions.
  • Mobilise, operate, and de-mobilise equipment during on-site and offshore survey projects.
  • Carry out on-site maintenance and repairs of survey systems during operations.
  • Post-survey, check and return equipment to stores in accordance with internal procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment, including software and firmware updates.
  • Support the training and development of junior team members.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in the workshop and stores.
  • Adhere to company HSE and QA policies and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably required by the company.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Strong background in electronics, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Practical hands-on experience with technical equipment in field environments.
  • Willingness and ability to work offshore, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong team player with effective communication skills.
  • Commitment to safe working practices.
Desirable:
  • Prior offshore or marine survey experience.
  • Familiarity with hydrographic, geophysical, or oceanographic survey equipment.
  • Ex-armed forces background with technical roles (e.g., engineering, signals, avionics, maintenance).
  • Relevant engineering qualifications.
